IPACS update
The activities of the International Partnership Against Corruption in Sport (IPACS) have been evolving over recent months, with some good progress made by its four Task Forces.
The end of April saw the official launch of Task Force 4, aimed at enhancing effective cooperation between law enforcement, criminal justice authorities and sports organisations. The event brought together more than 65 registered participants from governments, intergovernmental organisations and sports organisations to discuss the first outcome of this workstream, which is a draft stocktake report of anti-bribery legislation. Task Force 2 met virtually at the end of May and had the opportunity to review and endorse its two new resources, the draft toolkit for the reallocation of sports events and the draft recommendations for the candidature process of major sports events. These two tools will be presented at the next IPACS Steering Committee meeting for comments and approval.
In the meantime, the work of the OECD on identifying the risks in the delivery of major sports events in terms of infrastructure and services, and developing prevention mechanisms, is ongoing. In addition, work on drafting the implementation guidelines for the good governance benchmark driven by Task Force 3 is progressing, and more information will be available this autumn.
IPACS was also represented at the IOC International Athletes’ Forum at the end of May. At a virtual booth, the athlete representatives were able to learn more about this multi-stakeholder initiative and how they can get involved.
A virtual meeting of the IPACS Steering Committee, hosted by the IOC, will be organised on 8 November, prior to the IOC’s International Forum for Sports Integrity (IFSI) (see “Coming Up” section).
