Play with Purpose is a mental health and mindfulness programme in Barbados designed for athletes aged 5 to 17. It tackles the lack of emotional support at the grassroots level by teaching young athletes how to handle stress, process wins and losses positively, and develop resilience.
The programme blends sport-related skills with activities such as breathing exercises, journaling, affirmations and group discussions, ensuring that sport is not only about competition, but also about building confidence, teamwork and personal growth. Parents and coaches are also trained in mindful communication, creating a supportive network around the athletes. By promoting both physical activity and mental well-being, Play with Purpose nurtures healthier, happier and more resilient young athletes.
