Paris 2024 Olympic Volunteers Community

March 2025 – second edition

Welcome to the second edition of the Paris 2024 Olympic Volunteers Virtual Community newsletter.

Survey results

Thank you to the great many of you who took part in our survey. Your feedback was collected over a period of three weeks after the first newsletter was sent on 29 November 2024. We received a sufficient number of responses to get a good representative sample of the community.

We are pleased to share some of the key findings from this survey:

  • According to 80% of respondents, being part of the Olympic Volunteers Community is a great way to stay in touch with the Olympic Movement and the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
  • 79% of respondents said that being a volunteer was a great way to meet new people from different cultures, and 75% felt that the volunteers had a crucial impact on the successful staging of the Games.
  • 91% of those surveyed said they wanted to receive newsletters by email, with 72% preferring to receive the newsletter three times a year.
  • The survey also showed that community members feel that content should primarily focus on volunteering opportunities at Olympic events, news related to upcoming Olympic Games and updates on all the other Olympic Volunteer Communities.
  • 81% of volunteers surveyed were eager to take part in online events, which they felt should give them the opportunity to interact with Olympic Movement or sporting personalities from France (according to 70%) or abroad (63%).
  • 87% of those surveyed said they wanted to meet up in person at a future event or on the anniversary of the Olympic Games Paris 2024.
  • The survey showed that the level of commitment among volunteers is extremely high: a huge THANK YOU for taking part.

Results from the post-Games survey carried out by the French National Institute for Youth and Non-Formal Education (INJEP)

Following the Olympic and Paralympic Games Paris 2024, the National Institute for Youth and Non-Formal Education (INJEP), in collaboration with the Organising Committee, conducted a survey among the Paris 2024 volunteers to learn more about their profile and their links to sport and volunteering. The aim was also to get their thoughts and impressions on their unique Olympic and Paralympic experience. The online survey was carried out between 12 September and 3 October 2024. You can find the link to the results on the INJEP website; they provide lots of interesting information, especially about the Games volunteers’ profile and motivations.

Extending the magic of the Games

Since the Olympic and Paralympic Games Paris 2024 came to an end, many of you have been looking to extend the magic we all experienced during that incredible summer.

The official Paris 2024 channels, where you can watch (or re-watch) content produced during the Olympic Games – including the series “Au tour des Jeux” – are still available, as are volunteer social media accounts, together with now-iconic clips such as these:

Competition highlights and replays from the Olympic Games Paris 2024 are available on Olympics.com.

Social media is a great way to stay in touch, as is the IOC’s Olympic Volunteers Virtual Community.

Some volunteers set up their own channels to share their Olympic experiences, with many keeping a record of their adventures through vlogs and videos. Much of the content is in English, although one Japanese student shared his Paris 2024 experience with videos in three languages – French, English and Japanese:

Please feel free to send us your favourite videos of volunteers in action.

You can also check out some of the recently published books that recount the Games experiences of volunteers, and listen to the music that came to define the event. And why not take a little trip to Lausanne (Switzerland) to visit the Olympic Museum?

Nevertheless, doing more volunteering and sharing your experiences in sports associations is definitely the best way to extend the magic of those two weeks in Paris and spread the Olympic values.

If you’re feeling particularly motivated, you can still apply to become a volunteer at the next Olympics – the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Games. The volunteer programme for this edition has proved to be extremely popular, with lots of people signed up already. Applications have been flooding in, mostly from Italy but also from other countries.

Let us know how you’re extending the magic of the Games by emailing us.

Interview with Irene Marcatto, Head of the Milano Cortina 2026 volunteer programme

Can you tell us more about Team26, the Milano Cortina 2026 volunteer programme?

Team26 is the volunteer programme for all those who wish to be part of the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026, and experience first-hand the biggest sporting event in the world while embracing the cool Italian spirit. The programme was officially launched in September 2024 with over 10 000 applications received the first day. We are looking for 18,000 volunteers across all the host sites – an area that spreads over 22,000 square km!

What’s the situation in terms of applications?

We believe Team26 is an opportunity to build an incredible community of people from all over the world and a chance to create inspiring connections for all those who participate. Among the applicants, more than 161 different nationalities are represented. With over half of the applicants applying from Italy and a great response across the globe, there is room to create the most diverse team ever. We are happy to be welcoming a quota of international volunteers. If you are planning to relocate and find accommodation it will be at your expense, and on our side we will do our best to support you in choosing a suitable option.

Is it still possible to apply? Do you need more applications?

Applications are still open on the Team26 | Milano Cortina 2026 website, and we encourage anyone interested to apply as soon as possible. The selection process will be running until the summer of 2025. Remote interviews can be conducted for international applicants and can be organised upon invitation.

Have you got an exclusive for us?

Well it’s not exactly a scoop but… what I can tell you is that 100,000 people have already decided to apply. We received a great response among the younger generation. More than half of the applicants have previously volunteered at sports events of varying sizes, and some of them took part in previous winter and summer editions of the Games. This demonstrates that there’s an amazing community of enthusiastic people who love and support sport! But we’re not just looking for candidates with volunteering experience, as this event is a great opportunity to get more and more young people involved in volunteering, shaping a new movement for sport in the host regions.

Milano Cortina 2026: one year to go

In just under a year’s time, from 6 to 22 February 2026, the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026 will bring the world together in Italy, as the vibrant, cosmopolitan spirit of Milan converges with the timeless beauty of the Dolomites. In hosting the Olympic Winter Games for the third time – after Cortina d'Ampezzo 1956 and Turin 2006 – Italy will once again be showcasing its rich sporting heritage, culture and innovative spirit on the world stage.

Milano Cortina 2026 - The countdown is on!

Worldwide Olympic and Paralympic Partner OMEGA celebrated one year to go to the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026 by unveiling a stunning new Countdown Clock in the heart of Milan.

Winter Youth Olympic Games (YOG) 2028

On 30 January 2025, the IOC announced that the next Winter YOG would take place in the Italian Alps in 2028.

Dolomiti Valtellina 2028 will be the fifth edition of the Winter YOG. Competitions will be held in existing venues across three clusters in Valtellina, Trentino and Cortina, returning to some of the iconic sports venues that will be used for the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026. The 2028 YOG will be part of the Milano Cortina 2026 legacy.

And the subsequent Olympic Winter Games won’t be taking place too far away, with the French Alps hosting the event in 2030.

Speaking of French Alps 2030…

As of 18 February 2025, French Alps 2030 has an Organising Committee, headed by Olympic champion Edgar Grospiron.

Nevertheless, you’ll have to wait a bit before you can apply to become a volunteer for this edition of the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
