The International Olympic Committee has recently set the direction to make the Olympic Movement “Fit for the Future” – to ensure the Olympic Games and Movement remain inspiring and relevant in a changing world.
With six years to go, Australia, Queensland and Brisbane 2032 are already showing how these Games can represent the Olympic future.
For the IOC, the objectives for the Games in 2032 are clear: protect and elevate the experience, especially for athletes and fans; simplify delivery; and focus on what matters most – sport, celebration and impact.
This includes a curated sports programme that balances athlete value with global and local appeal and exciting performances, and further developments across other areas as the work continues.
Few Olympic host regions can match Southeast Queensland’s diversity. Brisbane’s urban energy, the Gold Coast’s legendary coastline and the Sunshine Coast’s mountains, forests and natural beauty create a varied backdrop within a compact area, while the benefits of the Games will reach communities across Queensland.
Bound by a shared passion for sport, outdoor living and nature, this region captures the Australian lifestyle I love. Brisbane 2032 will showcase this while building on investments in infrastructure, connectivity and opportunities for communities and future generations.
The competence and work ethic of Australians also stand out to me and are visible in Brisbane 2032’s achievements – from the Games vision and procurement programme to the signing of a first commercial partner, engagement activities and the upcoming emblem launch.
On my recent visit, the Organising Committee took me to a state school engagement activity with Olympians and Paralympians. The children’s energy was yet another reminder of Australians’ love of sport, expressed with openness, optimism and a smile.
Olympism is close to my heart: a philosophy of life blending body, will and mind through the joy of effort. As Australia, Queensland and their people live by these values each day, Brisbane 2032 is already showing what it means to be Fit for the Future.
