15 November 2024 - For the 10th year in a row, the NOC, together with the Leon Štukelj and Miroslav Cerar Foundation, in cooperation with the Anita Ogulin Association and ZPM, is trying to raise as much funding as possible for young athletes from socially disadvantaged backgrounds through the ''Botrstvo v športu'' project. The beginnings of the project date back to 2015, when the Foundation for Athletes from Socially Vulnerable Backgrounds was established on the initiative of former NOC President Bogdan Gabrovec. This year, Goran Dragić, the basketball ace and long-time captain of the Slovenian national basketball team, had a starring role in the traditional gala event held in Ljubljana, which also marked the end of his long professional sports career. The NOC President, Franjo Bobinac, the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Nataša Pirc Musar, Olympic gold medallist Andreja Leški and former basketball player Jure Zdovc addressed the audience. An auction of Dragić’s items raised a record amount. At the end of the gala, Dragić handed over a charity ball to his successor, two-time Olympic champion Janja Garnbret. 30 May 2023 - The NOC President, Franjo Bobinac, signed a lease agreement for the location that will host Slovenia House during the Olympic Games Paris 2024. Slovenia House will be set up in La Villette Park, which will be logistically very well connected to the Olympic Village and will also play host to a number of Olympic teams, including the French one. The goal of the House project is to present Slovenia: its economy, tourism, agriculture, gastronomy, science and other areas. During the Olympic Games, these will be presented in association with sport, partners and fans from around the world. On signing the lease, the NOC President recalled that 2024 will be the 100th anniversary of Leon Štukelj winning the Olympic gold medal in gymnastics at the Paris 1924 Games. 7 January 2022 - The Slovenian Olympic Committee has launched an environmental campaign to champion the protection of Alpine glaciers and a sustainable future for the Olympic Winter Games. At its centre is a small piece of Slovenia's quickly disappearing glacier named TOLI, the abbreviation of Triglav Olympic Legendary Ice. Prince Albert II, IOC Member and Chair of the IOC Sustainability and Legacy Commission, has taken on the co-patronage with the President of Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor, and expressed his support for the project and its mission. Neatly packed into an electric cooler in the back of a hybrid vehicle, the glacier piece is on its way to the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022, stopping off at 10 former Olympic venues on its journey from Slovenia to China via Italy, Monaco, Germany, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland and Russia. The campaign has been devised to be climate positive and will offset its own carbon footprint by planting over 400 trees after the Beijing Games.
