Venue construction kicks up in Tokyo
As the clock continues to tick down until the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, construction is picking up.
With just a little over 500 days to go until Tokyo welcomes the world’s best athletes, preparation is well on pace at major new permanent venues. Not only will these facilities offer best-in-class fields of play, they will go on to serve the people of Tokyo for decades to come.
The Sea Forest Waterway, Kasai Canoe Slalom Course, Yumenoshima Park Archery Field and Olympic and Paralympic Village have all achieved more than 70 per cent completion.
The Olympic Stadium, Ariake Gymnastics Centre and Tokyo Aquatics Centre are around 60 per cent complete.
Though the completion date of a section of the Canoe Slalom Centre due to be used for operation and management has recently been postponed, the revised construction schedule will have no impact on preparations for the Games or the hosting of test events.
