Welcome to another newsletter!

The coming 18 months will be crucial in developing IKL’s work, particularly as we adapt to a lot of necessary and exciting evolutions in the IOC’s Games management approach – there is more on this in the interview with Gavin McAlpine. This time will be dominated by preparations for the Paris 2024 Games and our efforts to optimise the many opportunities that the Games offer to future OCOGs. Our objectives for the period are grouped into three focus areas: Data and Analytics; Insights and Learning; and Information Management. They cover OCOG-facing work, but also the different ways in which we support the IOC administration. I want to comment on each in more detail.

Data and Analytics

We will finalise our contract with a new data and analytics strategic partner and onboard them to maintain progress on various data and analytics initiatives. At the time of writing, this work is proceeding well. We will also continue preparing for the Paris 2024 Olympics data collection and formalise the enterprise data and analytics programme for the IOC, focusing on priority use cases that support, above all, the evolving Games management approach.

Insights and Learning

To bolster our insights and learning initiatives, we will support Deloitte in implementing, integrating, and managing the Games Learning Platform (GLP). The delivery of the GLP will also be the catalyst for us to look at the significant library of content that we have been collecting since 2000 and promote more relevant and valuable knowledge. As priorities in the Games management approach are clarified for each OCOG, we will also work hard to try to develop fresh content to support specific learning needs. We will finalise the development of the Paris 2024 Observers Programme and Testing Activities Observers Programme in collaboration with Paris 2024 and the IOC FAs. We will also work closely with the Human Resources Talent Management team to further develop synergies and initiate the IOC Knowledge Exchange and GMT Secondment Programme. And we will clarify and optimise all didactic audio-visual capture projects for the Paris 2024 Olympics, leveraging contemporary self-service capture tools and methods wherever possible.

Information Management

As we decommission legacy information systems, we will collaborate with key stakeholders throughout the migration process to ensure the successful transfer of all retained information and metadata to our current platform. We will also devise a new strategy for records management, refreshing our information lifecycle, improving tracking, and speeding up search and find requests. Another task will be to finalise the inventory of all key records, providing accurate descriptions and metadata. And we will promote master data management (MDM) awareness within the organisation and strengthen relationships with technology architects, while continuing to improve the quality of data inside key customer relationship management (CRM) databases.

You will see references to these objectives in different ways in this newsletter, which as usual is packed with useful content. I hope you enjoy reading it and, as ever, I welcome any follow-up discussion on any of it.
