A new 15,000-capacity stadium that hosted the volleyball competitions at Tokyo 2020, Ariake Arena was envisioned as a sports and culture centre and reopened post-Games as a new hub for sport and culture. A venue is used for concerts and boxing, etc.

Another new-build venue, Ariake Gymnastics Centre hosted the artistic, rhythmic and trampoline gymnastic events at Tokyo 2020 but has since been converted into an exhibition hall that provides a showcase for the city’s SMEs. It has a total exhibition area of 9,400m2 and has one of the largest timber roofs in the world. After reopening in May 2023, it won a Japanese Ministry of the Environment award for its use of wood as a renewable and aesthetically pleasing resource.

Initially earmarked for demolition after the Games, Ariake Urban Sports Park reopened in October 2024 as a three-hectare, multi-purpose sports legacy zone featuring a skate park, 3×3 basketball court and a bouldering wall. Adjoining the park is a multi-use zone that serves the local community and includes shops, a sauna and cafes.

Ariake Urban Sports Park was built to host BMX, BMX freestyle and skateboarding at Tokyo 2020 and staged a skateboarding experience for local residents as part of celebrations held to mark the one-year anniversary of the Games.

An existing venue refurbished for Tokyo 2020, Ariake Tennis Park comprises 48 outer courts and the 10,000-seater Ariake Coliseum. The venue for the Japan Open and the Pan Pacific Open – ATP 500 and WTA 500 events respectively – the park is used extensively by the local community and is home to two tennis academies, shops, restaurants and jogging paths. It opened in 1983.
