The Olympic Studies Centre welcomes the Spanish National Olympic Committee as first partner to its Olympic World Library Network

The National Olympic Committee of Spain has become the first international partner to the Olympic World Library (OWL) network, an extension of the online library managed by the IOC Olympic Studies Centre (OSC) that serves as a library catalogue, an information portal and a search engine entirely devoted to Olympic knowledge.

With more than 38,000 titles, over 12,000 digital documents and over 400,000 users per year, the OWL has become the number one resource for Olympic knowledge. Its unique collection includes all publications by the IOC, the Organising Committees of the Olympic Games (OCOGs) as well as a large collection academic books and articles covering all historical, cultural, social and economic dimensions of the Olympic Movement.

“We are pleased to welcome the Spanish Olympic Committee as the first official partner, as they bring a wealth of additional publications in the Spanish language to the network”, said Angelita Teo, Director of the Olympic Foundation for Culture and Heritage. “Together, we can better foster Olympic education and studies throughout Spain and for Spanish speakers across the world.”

The agreement between the OSC and the Spanish NOC was led by Alejando Blanco, President of the Spanish Olympic Committee and managed by Raúl Chapado, President of the Royal Spanish Olympic Academy.

“We are excited to be the first partner in the OWL network and be able to give visibility to our resources and support education and research”, said Chapado.

One of the Royal Spanish Olympic Academy’s first priorities for this project is to digitise the writings of Conrado Durántez, founder and former president of the Royal Spanish Olympic Academy. “His important works as historian, author and expert on the topics of the ancient and modern Olympic Games and Olympism can now be accessed easily by people around the globe via the Olympic World Library", Chapado added.

“The launch of the Spanish National Olympic Committee’s library catalogue as part of the Olympic World Library is an important milestone for us”, said Maria Bogner, Head of the Olympic Studies Centre. "We are very happy about this first collaboration and are already working on extending the network to additional partners in the future, so we continue preserving, sharing and advancing knowledge of the Olympic Movement across the globe.”
