The Olympic Museum launches the “My DIY sports venue” competition

For the first time, The Olympic Museum is organising a photo competition to bring together thousands of sports images from ordinary people all over the world. “My DIY sports venue” is part of the Museum’s “The Art of Sports Photography” programme. The photos taken by the participants will provide another view, contrasting with the professional photographers’ photos on display.

With this competition, The Olympic Museum is demonstrating its desire to promote user-generated content in order to show in an unfiltered way that sport is present everywhere in society, including outside the official infrastructure.

Amateur photographers are thus invited to share their photos of sport practised in an improvised or unusual way. You can photograph any sports discipline you like, and especially those for which you need little or no equipment: a football match on a railway station concourse; a spot of synchronised swimming in a deserted inlet; a game of badminton in a supermarket car park; a quick jog around the Olympic Park…

To publicise this event among the general public, The Olympic Museum has named two exceptional ambassadors: photographer David Burnett (USA), a global star of sports photography, and tennis player Timea Bacsinszky (SUI), silver medallist at the 2016 Games in Rio.

You can sign up via a dedicated page on The Olympic Museum website between 24 May and 11 July 2017. A high-level international jury will then meet on 12 July to choose the three winning images and their 100 favourite photographs that best illustrate this Olympic spirit. On top of that, there will be three images in the “People’s Choice Prize” category.

And because images are the universal online language, a “social media” category will offer two further prizes: for the most shared photo on Twitter and the most liked photo on Instagram.

The six winners will receive their prizes during the sports image weekend at The Olympic Museum on 2 and 3 September.
