Located right in the centre of the French capital, the section between Courbevoie Bridge and Asnières Bridge was used to host the rowing, swimming and water polo competitions at Paris 1900. No facilities were erected for the rowing events, with spectators watching from the banks of the river.

Held on a different section of the river a little further upstream, the Traversée de Paris is an annual rowing event in which around a thousand rowers in approximately 200 boats navigate a course that runs between Sèvres Bridge and Île St. Louis.

Close to a century a later, and the river Seine was able to host once more the open-water swimming events at the Olympic Games Paris 2024, with races starting at Iena Bridge.
