Fight against doping
Ahead of the Olympic Games Rio 2016, the federal government created the Brazilian Authority for Doping Control (ABCD) in 2011.
The Authority is responsible for monitoring and managing procedures to prevent and combat doping nationwide, in addition to consolidating the anti-doping culture in the country, through education and doping control activities at all sporting events.
ABCD works in partnership with the Brazilian Doping Control Laboratory (LBCD), the only one in Brazil accredited by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
To become the laboratory responsible for carrying out doping tests at Rio 2016 and be recognised by the IOC, ABCD underwent extensive renovation and was reopened in 2015 with new facilities and state-of-the-art equipment that reflects the latest innovations in the detection of organic substances in biological matrices. Currently, it has a team consisting of 35 professionals, including professors, researchers and technicians specialising in doping control operations.
