Aside from these temporary venues, which were dismantled after the Games, all but one of the venues remain in use for high-performance sport and recreational and grassroots activities: Los Angeles Olympic Stadium, Rose Bowl Stadium, the Fencing Stadium/Pavilion, Los Angeles Harbour, Los Angeles Olympic Auditorium, the Los Angeles Police Pistol Range, the Riviera Country Club, Long Beach Marine Stadium and the Swimming Stadium. All 13 venues were in Los Angeles County and several of them are protected heritage sites.

Also known as the Memorial Coliseum, Los Angeles Olympic Stadium served as the main stadium and was one of two venues also used at the 1984 Olympic Games, the other being the Rose Bowl. They will both be used again at the 2028 Olympic Games, as will the Riviera Country Club. Both stadiums are iconic sporting venues and also host other events such as music concerts.

The Olympic Auditorium and the Fencing Stadium/Pavilion no longer host sporting events, instead fulfilling different functions to those they performed when they were built. Long Beach Marine Stadium and the Swimming Stadium are still used for recreational and competitive sport; the former will be the rowing and canoeing venue for the Olympic Games in 2028.

Los Angeles being the home of Hollywood, some of the venues have also been used as locations for films and TV shows. The Olympic Auditorium is itself the subject of a critically acclaimed documentary tracing its colourful history.
