IOC Executive Board approves Olympic diploma reallocation for Beijing 2022 and Paris 2024
During its meeting ahead of the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Executive Board (EB) today decided to reallocate Olympic diplomas, following changes to the results of events at the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games and the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Beijing 2022 – women's single skating
The International Skating Union (ISU) has amended the results of the Beijing 2022 women’s single skating competition (figure skating), after the disqualification of Kamila Valieva (ROC), who originally finished fourth.
The revised ranking of the athletes now placed fourth to eighth, as modified by the ISU, is as follows:
- 4th - Wakaba HIGUCHI (JPN)
- 5th - Young YOU (KOR)
- 6th - Alysa LIU (USA)
- 7th - Loena HENDRICKX (BEL)
- 8th - Yelim KIM (KOR)
Valieva was sanctioned with a four-year period of ineligibility, with her competitive results disqualified from 25 December 2021, pursuant to a decision by the Court of Arbitration for Sport dated 29 January 2024. An appeal against the decision was dismissed by the Swiss Federal Tribunal on 5 September 2024, confirming the decision as final and binding.
As all remedies related to the disqualification have been exhausted, and in the absence of any identified anti-doping-related impediments, the diplomas for the event will be reallocated to the above-mentioned athletes.
The rankings of the athletes placed ninth and below have also been updated accordingly.
The reallocation of medals is not automatic and is decided by the IOC on a case-by-case basis. Reallocation takes place only after all the remedies have been exhausted by the sanctioned athletes or teams, and once all procedures have been closed.
Paris 2024 – women’s marathon
The official results of the Paris 2024 women’s marathon (athletics) were amended by World Athletics following the disqualification of Delvine Relin Meringor (ROU), who originally finished seventh, for an anti-doping rule violation (ADRV).
Meringor’s competitive results from 7 October 2022 to 10 January 2028 were disqualified pursuant to a decision by the Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya dated 25 March 2025. No appeal was filed, which made the decision final and binding.
World Athletics has modified the results accordingly. The revised ranking of the athletes now placed seventh and eighth is as follows:
- 7th - Stella CHESANG (UGA)
- 8th - Lonah Chemtai SALPETER (ISR)
As all remedies related to the disqualification have been exhausted, and in the absence of any identified anti-doping-related impediments, the diplomas for the event will be reallocated to Stella Chesang (seventh place diploma) and Lonah Chemtai Salpeter (eighth place diploma).
The rankings of the athletes placed ninth and below have also been updated accordingly.
Delegation of powers
During its meeting, the EB also delegated powers to a Disciplinary Commission and to the IOC administration with regard to any alleged violations of the Olympic Charter, the IOC Code of Ethics or other IOC regulations that may arise during the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games.
