Deodoro Park

The majority of Deodoro Sports Complex, located in a military area, was handed over to the administration of the Brazilian Army after the Games. Radical Park, comprising the Olympic Canoe Slalom Stadium and the BMX track, was placed under public administration.

Of the three new permanent facilities at Parque Deodoro, two – the Olympic Canoe Slalom Stadium and the BMX track – were incorporated into Radical Park.

The Olympic Canoe Slalom Stadium is used for athlete training and world-class competitions. It is also a leisure area open to the public, in an area of Rio de Janeiro that previously lacked outdoor leisure opportunities. The facility has hosted two international competitions since the Games: the 2016 Pan American and South American Championships and the 2018 Canoe Slalom World Championships.

Renovations began in 2024 on the BMX track, which reopened in 2025.

The Olympic Shooting Centre, Olympic Equestrian Centre, Olympic Hockey Centre, Deodoro Aquatics Centre and Youth Arena are used by the Brazilian armed forces for military training and competitions. They are also used for training and competitions involving civilians, when requested.

In 2019, 13,500 trees were planted at Radical Park, growing from seeds planted at the Rio 2016 Opening Ceremony.
