Welcome

Dear Colleagues,

The Organising Committee for the 2023 edition of the IOC Advanced Team Physician Course (ATPC) is very pleased to welcome our experienced faculty members and delegates from all over the world to Medellín, Colombia.

This 14th edition follows the previous 13 successful ATPCs. The first was organised by the Oslo Sports Trauma Research Centre in Svolvær, Norway, in 2008. The IOC then held the next courses at Stanford University, USA, in 2010; in Calvi, France, in 2011; Oslo, Norway, in 2012; Saltsjøbaden, Sweden, in 2013; Mandelieu, France, in 2014; Doha, Qatar, in 2015; Stellenbosch, South Africa, in 2016; and Antalya, Türkiye, in 2017; before we celebrated the 10-year anniversary in Marrakesh, Morocco, in 2018. Since then, we have been to Tokyo, Japan, in 2019; Istanbul, Türkiye, in 2021, and finally Lausanne, Switzerland, last year.

The excellent feedback from previous participants has inspired us to continue developing the IOC ATPC concept to become even more valuable for experienced team physicians and a select group of physiotherapists.

For the 2023 edition, we will continue with what has become the trademark of the IOC ATPC: addressing current issues in sports medicine through real-life cases. You should expect discussions and interactions among participants and faculty members around clinical conundrums facing team physicians working with elite athletes. One new feature this year is that there will be simultaneous interpretation to and from Spanish.

One of the aims of the IOC ATPC is to have time for informal social interaction, and we know that each and every one of you will want to take advantage of this opportunity to build an international network with experienced colleagues among faculty members and delegates.

There are many situations in which the benefits of consulting a colleague with perspectives and practical experience other than your own could be very valuable.

A warm welcome to Medellín in November 2023!
